Hotel Info In Rome, Albergo del Senato Italy

In the heart of the center Storico, it’s so close to the Pantheon that anyone with a decent overarm technique could lob a cocktail olive into the oculus. But three other factors make the Del Senato stand out: excellent service, a delightful rooftop terrace and the pristine elegance of the suave antique décor.

The Del Senato is tucked away by the side of the Pantheon, in the heart of Old Rome, on a road that sees little motorized traffic. You can walk just about everywhere from here. It’s the classic antique-filled traditional Roman hotel, except that where some of its rivals are dusty and dowdy the Del Senato is elegant, highly-polished and full of fresh flowers.

Angle for a front-facing room; those overlooking the alleyway to the side of the hotel can be a little dark. All rooms, however, are elegantly decorated with polished parquet floors, wall-coverings in warm silk brocade, and graceful antique furniture. The superior doubles have good views over the Pantheon and the little piazza in front – but for a real treat, plump for a top-floor Penthouse Suite, which comes complete with a panoramic terrace.

If you’re not happy with your room, ask for another – at all but the busiest times they will generally upgrade you free of charge. There’s no restaurant, but the extensive breakfast buffet, which includes plenty of freshly baked goodies, will set you up nicely for a day’s sightseeing.

The real piece de resistance, however, is the roof terrace – open May to October – where evening drinks and snacks are served. Double rooms from around €160 (£126) in low season; rising to €315 (£248) in high. Breakfast included. Free Wi-Fi.
